The open design of the device allows patients to be examined in any convenient position. The well-known tube, which is often feared due to its narrowness, disappears completely from the Kreisklinik's equipment campus. "We are pleased that the open MRI allows us to offer our patients precise and professional imaging diagnostics that are comfortable at the same time. Especially for anxiety patients or people with limited mobility, the open magnetic resonance tomograph is a major improvement", says the head of the radiology section, Dr. Udo Raab.
Ahmad Abusaman, Senior Physician of Radiology, added: "For example, the option of an accompanying person had to be fulfilled. This was important to us for the examination of elderly people, patients with dementia or even children.”
At the same time, the device means a higher benefit for doctors and assistants and also strengthens the competitiveness of the site. Clinical Director Prof. Erika Raab says: "We are convinced that technology at the highest level belongs not only to large clinics, but also to smaller rural houses. We need to move with the times to ensure the best possible medical care in the county and provide real added value to our patients.”
District Administrator Thomas Will, as Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Kreisklinik, is pleased with the acquisition: "Open MRI is a unique selling point for Groß-Gerau. The device will not only improve the quality of healthcare in our region, but will also set new standards beyond the community.”
"With open magnetic resonance imaging, the district hospital continues its concept and is always guided by the standard of basic care tailored to the needs of the population", comments First District Representative Walter Astheimer on the innovation.
The open MRI is a clinical device, i.e. primarily for clinical patients. All hospital patients are reimbursed for the MRI by their health insurance funds, whether they are insured by law or privately. Should an MRI examination be necessary in a district hospital patient, it will be carried out in the new open MRI. The same applies to outpatient emergency patients who are admitted via the Central Emergency Department.
In addition to regular hospital operation, open MRI examinations are also offered to outpatients by appointment; Appointment requests for MRI are possible via https://www.kreisklinik-gg.de/unser-haus/radiologie/.
This offer can mainly only be made to self-payers or privately insured persons. In the meantime, however, statutory health insurance companies are increasingly bearing the costs of a corresponding examination. To make sure of this, the district clinic recommends that legally insured ambulance patients consult their health insurance company before booking an appointment for an open MRI.
In addition to the open MRI, the district clinic in the newly established radiology department takes comprehensive care of the renewal of the device campus. This includes two new X-ray equipment – a static one with particularly low radiation exposure and a mobile one for flexible and fast use throughout the house, such as in the intensive care unit.
About the Department of Radiology:
After being taken over by a cooperating practice for several years, radiology at the Groß-Gerau district clinic was again integrated into the clinic as a separate department at the end of 2021. Like the other departments and sections of the district clinic, radiology also takes care of the hospital's inpatients and outpatient emergencies. In addition, outpatients can also register privately or as self-payers for appointments. Statutory insured persons should consult their health insurance fund in advance of an outpatient appointment, which benefits are covered in individual cases.
