KREIS GROSS-GERAU - The new Open MRI was successfully installed on Tuesday, 25 January, in the premises of the Kreisklinik Groß-Gerau: After opening the hospital facade, a crane lifted the 15 ton device into the ground floor of the house. It finds its place where the parent school of the district clinic used to be located.
This is the largest and most complex step for installation. The radiology team is pleased with the milestone of the project: "After intensive preparation, the new MRI is now in place. We are grateful that all parties involved have worked together so well and that we will soon be able to offer our patients an examination in the new device," says Prof. Erika Raab, Managing Director of the Kreisklinik Groß-Gerau. Commissioning is scheduled for mid-February. The device is financed by subsidies from the country.
Due to the open design of the MRI, patients can be examined in their comfortable and preferred lying position. "For people with fear of space, limited mobility or even for those who are dependent on accompanying persons, this is a great advance in treatment quality and comfort," explains the section head of radiology, Dr. Udo Raab.
At the same time, Open MRI, which in its specific version is currently the only one in Europe, enables images of the highest quality, making diagnoses faster and more comprehensive, and developing appropriate therapeutic approaches in a more targeted manner. The technology thus offers great added value for patient safety. Doctors and nurses also benefit from easy handling and additional functions, such as 3-D reconstructions of the images.
‘This is a good day today,’ said District Administrator Thomas Will, who at times looked at the delivery of the magnetic resonance imaging device and was informed about the state of affairs. ‘Not only does the district hospital continue to exist, for which the district has repeatedly campaigned. Now it even gets a unique selling point with the Open MRT, which will look far beyond the Groß-Gerau district", says the district administrator.
The device will be available for all inpatients of the district clinic as well as outpatient emergencies. Interested parties can register in advance as self-payers or privately insured persons for a waiting list place in the outpatient area. There are already around 70 inquiries, said the hospital managing director on the day of the MRI installation.
About the Department of Radiology:
After being taken over by a cooperating practice for several years, radiology at the Groß-Gerau district clinic was again integrated into the clinic as a separate department at the end of 2021. Like the other departments and sections of the district clinic, radiology also takes care of the hospital's inpatients and outpatient emergencies. In addition, outpatients can also register privately or as self-payers for appointments. Statutory insured persons should consult their health insurance fund in advance of an outpatient appointment, which benefits are covered in individual cases.
About Kreisklinik Groß-Gerau GmbH:
As a basic provider, Kreisklinik Groß-Gerau GmbH takes care of the basic medical needs of the district population. The clinic has 350 employees and treats approximately 7,000 patients annually. Since the beginning of the pandemic, the company has been a Corona focus house and has so far supplied more than 6,000 Covid cases in the inpatient or outpatient sector.
