KREIS GROSS-GERAU - New growth for the Intersectoral Supply Centre: Since October or from the beginning of 2022, Kreisklinik Groß-Gerau has a new cooperation partner. The range of services offered by the district clinic in surgery is subsequently expanded to include the specialist areas of pediatric orthopaedic surgery and spinal surgery. The doctors Dres. Leonhard Döderlein and Ramin Farhoumand, both long-established and specialized orthopaedists and trauma surgeons, strengthen the management of these areas. Thus, the hospital can further expand the already wide range of services.
From January 2022, children with orthopaedic-surgical diseases will also receive a specialised range of treatments in the Groß-Gerau district. The focus of the collaboration is the care of patients with spastic and flaccid paralysis, but also of children with arthrogrypose. In addition to these topics, hip, knee and, above all, foot deformities in childhood and adolescence can also be treated at the district clinic.
Surgical treatments for children are a special discipline: “Children are not just small adults. The treatment must be individually tailored to the state of development and growth of the child", says Dr. Döderlein, who will lead the Department of Pediatric Surgery at the Groß-Gerau district hospital as a specialist in orthopaedics.
As a small and family house, the district clinic can use its strengths in the new cooperation: Short distances, small wards and close cooperation between outpatient and inpatient departments ensure that diagnoses and treatments are less time-consuming and less stressful. The district clinic also offers the possibility of taking parents as accompanying persons in the event of an inpatient stay. In addition, the elective service station to be opened next year holds large rooms that allow family use.
District Administrator Thomas Will is a founding member of the Friends of Pediatric Surgery at the University Hospital Mainz and has a special relationship with the department. The fact that the new cooperation brings a corresponding treatment offer into the circle means a lot to him: ‘Whether young or old: In our clinic, our intersectoral care center, all people are in good hands and receive the best possible treatment. I am very pleased that the hospital management is creating this new medical offer.”
The district clinic also receives additional reinforcement through the cooperation in the field of spinal surgery, represented by the specialist for orthopaedics and trauma surgery, Dr. Farhoumand.
District Hospital Managing Director Prof. Erika Raab welcomes the new doctors: "We are very pleased that with this cooperation we are taking on such a renowned team at our location. The fact that the partnership will enable the district hospital to increase its surgical service portfolio in this way means a tangible added value in terms of treatment quality – for young and old patients.”
